Boa Vista (meaning ''Good View'' in Portuguese) is a neighbourhood of the city of Porto Alegre, the state capital of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. It was created by Law 2022 from December 7, 1959. ==History== Boa Vista became a residential neighbourhood in the 1960s. The first and oldest houses were constructed around the ''Praça do Japão'' (Japan Square), which is located in an upland area. From the 1990s to nowadays, however, some of this residences became commercial establishments, such as stores, cafés, restaurants, law firms, etc. Other houses were demolished and apartment buildings were built in their place. The most important street in Boa Vista is ''Anita Garibaldi'' Street, which gets very crowded by cars during the rush hours. In the neighbourhood there are two highly regarded private schools, Monteiro Lobato and Província de São Pedro, founded respectively in 1971 and 1979. Near them is the only public school in Boa Vista, ''Escola Estadual de Ensino Fundamental Bahia'' (State Middle and Elementary School Bahia). Moreover, there are two well-known social and sports clubs: the Porto Alegre Country Club, with an 50 hectare area, and the Lebanese Society (''Sociedade Libanesa'').
